Get Caught Up

My remediation sessions provide targeted support for students who need help catching up. I focus on identifying gaps in knowledge and reinforcing fundamental concepts, ensuring a strong foundation for future learning. I will use a combination of the student's current classroom materials and Math Mansion's personalized resources during these sessions.

During our first session, your child and I will:

Check Schoology and review posted assignments

Review Live Gradebook (i.e. Power School, SIS) to look for

missing and/or failed assignments in math

Come up with a game plan for completing missing work

Start to over failed assessments/do test corrections, or work on

     an assignment that is due

Grade-Level Practice and Test Prep

Stay on Track

Grade-level practice sessions help students stay on course with their current curriculum. I offer homework help, test preparation, and fun vocabulary activities to reinforce classroom learning and build confidence.  In these sessions, we will focus on reinforcing classroom concepts and ask that the student regularly brings their homework and math materials to the sessions to receive support.

Accelerate and Excel

My enrichment sessions are designed for students who are ready to go beyond the classroom curriculum. These sessions challenge students with advanced topics and problem-solving skills, fostering a deeper understanding and love for math.  Math Mansion will provide personalized materials for these sessions.

  • Is there a contract?
At Math Mansion, we believe in providing complete flexibility and convenience for our students and their families. We understand the importance of consistency in making math progress, so our services are offered on a semester-by-semester basis. When you register, you are securing your time slot for the entire semester. However, there is no long-term contract, and you have the right to stop sessions at any time. We do ask for a 1-hour notice if you need to cancel an individual session.
  • When do I pay for tutoring?
When you register, you are securing your time slot for the entire semester (16 sessions) However, there is no long-term contract, and you have the right to stop sessions at any time. Sessions will run weekly from 8/26 - 12/19 and you have the following payment options: We'll accept cash, check, or Venmo as payment methods!
  • What does a typical tutoring session look like?
Sessions are interactive and student-centered, encouraging questions and promoting critical thinking. Sara uses a variety of educational tools and resources, including visual aids, digital platforms, and real-world examples, to make complex mathematical concepts accessible and interesting. Regular feedback and progress checks ensure that students stay on track and continue to build confidence in their mathematical abilities. Sara is an expert at tailoring the lesson plan to meet the specific needs of the student, utilizing a mix of theoretical discussion and practical problem-solving exercises. Students will be given the opportunity to receive support on school assignments, but Sara will have supplemental resources readily available for practice.
  • Are there any group tutoring options available?
Absolutely! At Math Mansion, we believe in the magic of collaborative learning. Each school year brings new students of varying levels, therefore, depending on how many students we are working with from each grade level, we may be able to offer small group sessions on Sunday afternoons.
  • What if we need to cancel a session?
Listen, we get it. Kids get sick. Teenagers get moody. Dads forget things. If your child needs to miss a session for whatever reason, please text or call us no later than 1 hour prior to the session starting. We'll gladly reschedule up to two cancelled sessions (per semester). After two cancelled sessions, we reserve the right to discontinue providing services.
  • What should my child bring to the tutoring sessions?
To ensure your child gets the most out of their time at Math Mansion, we recommend they come prepared with a few essential items: **Homework assignments/school work**: any current assignments or areas they’re struggling with should be brought along so Sara can provide targeted assistance. **Notebook**: this will be used for scratch work and to jot down important concepts during our sessions. This can be the same notebook used in school or it can a separate notebook dedicated to tutoring sessions. **Laptop**: it is common for schools to use online learning management systems like Blackboard, Google Classroom, or Schoology to post their daily classwork and assignments. If your child's school uses this sort of online program, we ask that students bring their device. **Calculator**: depending on their grade level and the complexity of the topics being covered, a scientific or graphing calculator may be necessary. Otherwise, it is student preference which type of calculator they bring. **Mathematics Textbook**: if they are currently using a specific textbook at school, bringing it along will help align our tutoring with their curriculum. If students do not have or use their textbook, there is no need to bring it to the sessions.
  • Will you be in contact with my child's classroom teacher?
Our goal is to create a seamless learning journey that unlocks the full potential of your child's math abilities, and we believe that parents are a fundamental part of this journey. If you are reading this right now, you are clearly active in your child's learning, so we'll spare you the lecture. That said, at no point in time will Math Mansion be expected to communicate with your child's classroom teacher directly. Parents are welcome to provide Sara a copy of classroom reports or school documents to ensure the optimized learning environment for their child. In special cases, parents may give Math Mansion consent to communicate with your child's teacher, but Sara is confident she has ample experience in assessing a child's math needs and progress and can provide a comprehensive support plan without needing to confer with your child's classroom teacher.
  • Do you provide resources for us to use at-home to practice?
Yes! We offer a variety of resources for different grade levels. Our Word Puzzles include including word searches, crosswords, and word jumbles, to reinforce math vocabulary and concepts. We also have Interactive Digital practices aligned to both Common Core and Virginia Standards of Learning. These activities are designed to make learning fun and engaging and are available for purchase on Teachers Pay Teachers. Students receiving tutoring services from Math Mansion will not be given weekly homework assignments - all work will be done during the session.
